Louisiana begins Youth and Veterans deer season amid litter concerns

The Youth and Veterans special deer week for Area 2 in Northwest Louisiana is scheduled to begin on Saturday, October 10, and run through Friday, October 16. This season provides honorably discharged veterans and qualified youth hunters additional opportunities to harvest deer.

Youth hunters must possess a hunter safety certification or proof of course completion and must be accompanied by an adult 18 or older, unless they are 12 or older and have completed a safety course. Veterans must be properly licensed and provide proof of honorable discharge, such as a U.S. Veterans Driver’s License or Department of Defense Form 214.

Concurrently, local authorities and residents are addressing a recurring issue with littering. Hunters have been criticized for leaving empty deer corn sacks on roadsides, particularly near areas like the Bodcau WMA. The Bienville Parish Sheriff has requested that hunters properly dispose of these bags in dumpsters rather than leaving them in truck beds where they can blow onto roadways.
