Louisiana burn ban expands to 29 parishes

The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry has issued a burn ban for 29 parishes due to hot and dry weather conditions. The latest additions to the ban include Acadia and Vermilion Parishes.

Under the ban, open burning—defined as burning material on open ground without a container—is restricted to mitigate fire risks. The State Fire Marshal notes that only vegetation and ordinary yard waste, such as leaves and grass clippings, are legal to burn where local ordinances permit. The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality prohibits the burning of plastics, tires, chemicals, asphalt shingles, and other synthetic materials.
