Louisiana ends 61-year school desegregation consent decree

The Trump administration and a Louisiana school board have ended a 61-year-old desegregation consent decree. The oversight agreement, originally issued in 1964, was intended to curb segregation within the Bossier Parish Schools.

Bossier Parish Schools Superintendent Jason Rowland stated that the dismissal of the case provides the district with the freedom to make decisions in the best interest of students, staff, and the community. Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill supported the move, describing the decades-old decrees as expensive, ineffective, and a removal of power from local communities.
