Louisiana faces high safety risks in city and e-bike studies

Louisiana has been identified as a high-risk area in two recent safety studies. According to a WalletHub report, New Orleans is ranked as the least safe city in the United States out of 182 communities evaluated. The city received an overall safety score of 30.66 out of 100, placing it last due to low scores in home and community safety, financial safety, and natural disaster risk. Shreveport was also noted as one of the state's less safe cities, ranking 158th.

Separately, a study by H&P Law named Louisiana the highest-risk state for electric bicycle riders in the U.S. The state recorded an e-bike road risk score of 98.4 out of 100, surpassing Arizona and Hawaii. The research highlighted a motorized-bicycle fatality rate of 0.870 per million residents between 2022 and 2024, noting that cyclists accounted for 5.9% of the state's traffic fatalities in 2024.
