Louisiana flu activity nearly doubles compared to last year

Flu activity in Louisiana is increasing at a faster rate than last year. For the week ending October 3, the statewide positivity rate reached approximately 6.5%, nearly double the 3.4% recorded during the same period last year.

Emergency room visits for influenza-like illnesses have also risen to 2.9% of visits, up from 1.6% in early October 2025. While these figures are higher than previous years and exceed the national rate of 3.6%, they remain below the regional baseline of 4.1%.

Medical professionals in Baton Rouge reported early signs of community spread in September. Doctors are currently urging families to seek vaccinations as the season typically intensifies through the winter months. While flu activity is rising, COVID-19 cases have remained mild and RSV season is currently considered off.
