Louisiana high school football season begins with stadium reopening

The 2026 Louisiana high school football season begins this Friday, highlighted by the reopening of the renovated Cougar Stadium at Lake Charles College Prep (LCCP). After playing the entire 2025 season at various alternative venues due to stadium renovations, LCCP will host Class 1A No. 9 East Feliciana in a top-10 matchup. LCCP enters the game as the Class 4A No. 8 seed, featuring offensive threats such as quarterback Dylan Vital and rusher Ayden Carter.

Across the Acadiana region, several other key matchups are scheduled for Week 1. Notable games include a rematch between Teurlings Catholic and St. Thomas More, as well as Acadiana taking on Central in Baton Rouge. Other significant matchups feature Southside hosting Brother Martin and Carencro traveling to face Lafayette Christian Academy.
