Louisiana lawmakers consider $54M no-bid Motorola contract

Louisiana lawmakers are reviewing a proposed $54 million, 10-year no-bid contract with Motorola to supply disaster communications, body-worn cameras, and dashboard technology to various state agencies.

The Landry administration argues the exclusive deal could save the state between $40 million and $70 million by securing long-term discounts. The integrated system is intended for use by the Louisiana State Police, the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, the Department of Corrections, and several other state departments.

While state police officials claim a nine-month review determined Motorola offered the best integrated solution to prevent missing footage, some lawmakers have expressed concerns regarding the lack of a competitive bidding process. The contract would replace existing arrangements, including the current body camera supplier, Axon Enterprise Inc.
