Louisiana reports high job growth despite low safety ranking
Louisiana is experiencing contrasting economic and safety trends according to recent reports. A study by WalletHub released on October 5 ranks Louisiana as the 49th safest state in the United States out of 50. The state received an overall score of 37 out of 100, placing it just above Mississippi. The ranking evaluated 52 measures across five categories: personal and home safety, financial safety, road safety, workplace safety, and emergency preparedness. Louisiana scored particularly low in financial safety and emergency preparedness, both ranking 49th.
In contrast to these safety concerns, data from Louisiana Works indicates significant economic momentum. For the 2025-2026 period, Louisiana's job growth is ranked fourth highest in the country, trailing only three other states. While safety metrics suggest vulnerabilities in infrastructure and financial security, the state's employment sector is showing notable strength.
