Louisiana restores active status to 67,000 voters after database error

The Louisiana Secretary of State’s office has restored active status to approximately 67,000 voters who were mistakenly classified as inactive following a database maintenance error. Trey Williams, deputy secretary of state for communications and policy, stated that the error was caused by human error during routine maintenance on a Monday night.

Officials emphasized that the glitch did not affect voter eligibility or the ability to cast ballots, as an inactive designation does not cancel a registration. The office has implemented additional internal safeguards to prevent a recurrence. While the error impacted individuals across the state, officials could not provide a specific parish-by-parish breakdown of those affected. Voters are encouraged to verify their registration information and sample ballots via the GeauxVote portal or app.
