Louisiana squirrel hunting season begins in October

The squirrel hunting season in Louisiana is set to begin on the first Saturday of October. Proponents suggest that squirrel hunting serves as an excellent gateway for youth to develop a passion for the outdoors and essential hunting skills.

Unlike other types of hunting that may require expensive leases, squirrels are widely available in the public hunting areas of North Louisiana. Additionally, the practice is highlighted as a way to preserve traditional culinary customs, such as preparing squirrel with gravy or in dumplings.
