Louisiana State University faces student protests and SEC scrutiny

Louisiana State University (LSU) is facing internal and external pressures regarding administrative decisions. On one front, a coalition of student organizations held a press conference to protest the closure of several campus cultural centers, including the African American, Women’s, Latinx, LGBTQ+, and Multicultural centers. Students met with university executives to demand the centers be reopened to full capacity, but the administration maintained the changes were necessary to cut costs and eliminate redundancy.

Separately, the Southeastern Conference (SEC) held a meeting of its presidents and chancellors to discuss recent matters involving conference expectations and responsibilities. This followed a legal dispute regarding LSU’s pursuit of former NFL players Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris, which challenged conference rules. While the meeting took place, no vote was held to expel LSU from the conference, and no sanctions were imposed.
