Louisiana storms threaten Acadiana with heavy rain and flooding

Strong thunderstorms are moving southward through Louisiana, impacting the Acadiana region and potentially affecting commutes and school schedules. While heat advisories are not in effect, the National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement for storms moving through southeastern Louisiana and South Mississippi.

The heaviest rainfall is expected along the I-10 corridor, particularly from the Lafayette area eastward. While typical rainfall amounts are forecasted between a quarter and a half inch, there is a potential for one to two inches of rain in parts of Acadiana and South Louisiana. The Weather Prediction Center has warned of excessive rainfall and downpours that could outpace local drainage systems in areas ranging from Lake Charles through Lafayette and Baton Rouge.
