Louisiana woman arrested for alleged casino jackpot fraud scheme

Shamika Brown, a 43-year-old woman from Alexandria, Louisiana, has been arrested following an investigation into a multi-year casino fraud scheme. Authorities allege that Brown used falsified Social Security numbers to collect various jackpots at L'Auberge Baton Rouge and another local casino.

Investigators state that in 2020, Brown allegedly used fraudulent information to collect 16 jackpots totaling more than $41,000. The scheme was reportedly intended to circumvent overdue child support obligations owed to the Department of Children and Family Services. Additional fraudulent activities were noted in 2023 and 2024, involving jackpots of approximately $2,500 and $1,264.

Brown was apprehended on September 21 after a gaming enforcement investigator recognized her while she was allegedly attempting to collect the $1,264 jackpot involved in the ongoing investigation. She has been booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison facing 18 counts of identity theft and 18 counts of bank fraud. The investigation remains ongoing, and officials indicated that further charges may be filed.
