Word Unscrambler analyzed Google Trends data from January 1 to July 7 2026 to identify the most searched word definitions nationwide and by state. The study found that abstract concepts dominated the top national searches, with “Gaslighting” (286,900 searches), “Love” (274,900), “Fascism” (264,700), “Empathy” (265,600), and “Integrity” (262,100) leading the list. A spokesperson said, “One of the most striking findings is that Americans’ top searched definitions in 2026 are dominated by abstract concepts rather than objects.”

State‑by‑state comparisons showed Louisiana’s most searched definition was “Love,” while Texas peaked at “Republic,” Arkansas at “Economics,” Alaska at “Fascism,” New York at “Equity,” and Ohio at “Fiction.” The results highlight regional variations in the topics people seek to understand through Google’s search engine.
