Louisville Interstate 65 Reopens Ahead of Schedule
Governor Andy Beshear announced that Interstate 65 in Louisville will reopen to traffic on Wednesday, three days earlier than planned, restoring two lanes in each direction on the five‑mile stretch between Interstate 264 and downtown. The accelerated work replaces three aging bridges built in the late 1950s and is part of a wider I‑65 Central Corridor project that will eventually address nine bridges.
The early reopening saves roughly a year of additional restrictions on the highway. Drivers are still encouraged to use the signed detour on Interstate 264 (Georgia Davis Powers Expressway) while construction continues.
"We know how important this corridor is to Louisville… and we’re excited to reopen it ahead of schedule," Beshear said. Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Goodman added that the closure had significant impacts on drivers and praised the public’s patience.
