Three Romanian workers die in Portuguese water reservoir accident

Three Romanian workers died following a workplace accident inside a water reservoir at a private residence in Quinta do Lago, Loulé, in the Algarve region of Portugal. The victims, aged 21, 24, and 40, were performing waterproofing work when the incident occurred on Monday.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene around 12:53 PM and attempted resuscitation efforts, but the men were pronounced dead at the site. Three other workers, aged between 50 and 52, received medical assistance on-site but declined transport to a hospital.

Authorities, including the Republican National Guard (GNR) and the Authority for Working Conditions (ACT), have launched investigations to determine the exact cause of death and whether safety regulations were followed. Preliminary hypotheses suggest potential intoxication from toxic substances or a lack of oxygen within the confined space. One report noted the victims were relatives—two brothers and an uncle—working for a family construction firm.
