Lounais-Suomen Jätehuolto launches camera‑surveillance pilot at Naantali’s Soinisten recycling point

Lounais‑Suomen Jätehuolto (LSJH) has upgraded the Soinisten eco‑point in Naantali to cope with growing demand. The site received extensive summer renovations, including a new double‑chamber compactor that separates plastic and cardboard, new flooring, electricity, and pest‑control measures that eliminated a large rat population. Old collection containers will be removed in week 32 and the area will be thoroughly cleaned.

In August, LSJH will begin its first camera‑surveillance pilot at the Soinisten point, aiming to monitor usage and reduce littering. Area service planner Kirsi Aittakari noted the point’s popularity and the need for the upgrades. At the same time, LSJH moved Turku’s Satava eco‑point to a new location that can also collect plastic and cardboard, continuing its network modernization.

The pilot’s results may inform future expansion of camera monitoring to other LSJH sites.
