Lourdes Melo hospitalized in Teresina after hemorrhagic stroke

Lourdes Melo, the 73-year-old candidate for the Governor of Piauí representing the Partido da Causa Operária (PCO), has been hospitalized in Teresina after suffering a hemorrhagic stroke.

According to her family and campaign staff, Melo is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Hospital São Marcos. She was initially treated at Hospital Itacor following a spike in blood pressure. Despite the severity of the event, her family reports that she remains lucid, conscious, and stable.

Melo, a retired teacher and long-time political activist, gained national attention in 2022 during a televised debate. Her campaign had already suspended scheduled activities on Friday due to health concerns prior to the formal announcement of her hospitalization.
