Loutia River bridge project approved with 5.8 million euro budget

The Regional Governor of Central Macedonia, Athina Aidona, has approved the construction of a new bridge over the Loutia River. The project, funded by the ESPA program, has a budget of 5.8 million euros.

Located on the old Thessaloniki-Athens national road near the village of Loutia, the new bridge is intended to replace an outdated metal bridge that is currently too narrow for vehicles to pass in opposite directions simultaneously. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2029.

The intervention is described as a comprehensive upgrade rather than just a bridge replacement. It includes approximately 1,900 meters of road redesign and improvement, drainage and sewage infrastructure, new signage, safety barriers, and electric lighting to enhance road safety for residents, farmers, and travelers.
