Louvre Museum: Stolen Crown Jewels remain missing one year after robbery

One year after the spectacular robbery at the Louvre on October 19, 2025, eight pieces of the French Crown Jewels remain missing. The stolen items, which include pieces belonging to Marie-Amélie, Hortense, Marie-Louise, and Empress Eugénie, are estimated to be worth between 88 million and 100 million dollars. The theft, which lasted only minutes, involved suspects disguised as workers who entered the Apollo Gallery via a window.

While four suspects have been detained, the jewelry—containing over 8,700 diamonds—has not been recovered despite investigations spanning France, Belgium, and Italy. Museum President Christophe Leribault has warned that the institution faces a “catastrophe” due to structural decay, overcrowding, and security vulnerabilities. He emphasized that the museum requires a comprehensive renovation plan rather than superficial security updates to ensure its long-term survival and ability to protect its collections.
