Louvre Museum hosts major Francisco de Zurbarán exhibition
The Louvre Museum is hosting a major exhibition dedicated to Francisco de Zurbarán, a prominent figure of the Spanish Golden Age. The showcase features 65 works, including pieces that previously traveled to the National Gallery in London.
In a curated dialogue, the exhibition pairs Zurbarán’s paintings with ‘Sculpting Color’, a parallel display of 17th-century Spanish religious wood sculptures. This second component includes 25 pieces on loan from the National Museum of Sculpture in Valladolid. The program aims to highlight the sculptural and theatrical qualities of Zurbarán’s religious compositions and his mastery of tenebrism and chiaroscuro.
This exhibition serves as the centerpiece of a broader three-month program in Paris dedicated to Spanish culture, encompassing various pictorial, cinematic, theatrical, and musical offerings.
