Louvre Museum reopens Galerie d’Apollon one year after massive jewel heist

One year after a major heist at the Louvre Museum, the Galerie d’Apollon has reopened to the public, though many of its most significant treasures remain missing. During the robbery on October 19, 2025, thieves used a lift to enter through a balcony and window, breaking into display cases to steal eight pieces of French Crown jewelry. The stolen items are estimated to be worth 88 million euros.

While the museum has moved the remaining treasures to an undisclosed location within the building, the empty display cases serve as a reminder of the loss. Louvre Director Christophe Leribault expressed hope for a new beginning with the gallery's reopening.

Investigations into the theft continue, with several questions remaining regarding the identity of the perpetrators and the location of the jewels. Investigators recently followed a lead to Belgium after finding photos of the gallery on suspects' mobile phones. Two primary suspects have provided conflicting statements regarding an unknown employer who allegedly recruited them days before the crime.
