Louvre Museum: Two Germans arrested for hanging paintings near Mona Lisa
Two German tourists were arrested at the Louvre Museum in Paris after using adhesive tape to hang two of their own paintings on a wall in the Salle des États, the room housing the ‘Mona Lisa’. The two artworks, measuring approximately 30 by 40 centimeters, depicted one of the men in armor and a portrait of the two men with a woman.
Museum security intercepted the individuals and notified the police. The men reportedly told authorities they were performing the act as a “joke.” While the ‘Mona Lisa’ remained undamaged, security staff noted slight damage to the museum wall where the paintings were attached.
The incident has renewed scrutiny regarding the museum's security protocols, following previous high-profile issues including a major jewelry theft in late 2025 and various structural concerns.
