Lovable shifts SaaS model toward AI agent-accessible capabilities

Lovable is shifting its business model from traditional software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications toward providing capabilities accessible by AI agents. According to CTO Fabian Hedin, the platform is evolving to allow AI entities to interact with external tools and functions directly, rather than requiring human users to navigate graphical interfaces.

To facilitate this, Lovable uses Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers to act as intermediaries. These servers expose specific application functions as tools that an AI agent can invoke. This creates a parallel access point to software, designed for text-based processing and function calling rather than visual interaction.

This strategic pivot follows a significant financial milestone for the company. In August 2026, Lovable closed a $400 million Series C funding round, bringing its valuation to $13.3 billion. The company reports an annual revenue of $500 million and manages approximately 60 million projects on its platform.
