Loveth Omoruyi ruled out of European Championship after severe knee injury

Italian volleyball player Loveth Omoruyi has suffered a severe knee injury that will force her to miss the upcoming 2026 European Championship. The injury occurred on August 12, 2026, during a friendly match against Ukraine in Koszalin, Poland.

Medical examinations revealed a total rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), along with partial ruptures of the lateral collateral ligament and the medial meniscus, as well as bone trauma to the femoral condyle. Omoruyi will require surgery to address these injuries.

The 23-year-old hitter, who plays for Megabox Vallefoglia, is considered a key asset for national team coach Julio Velasco. Megabox president Ivano Angeli expressed deep sorrow regarding the injury, stating the club will support the athlete throughout her recovery process.
