Low female representation in Brazil's military police in Piauí and Paraíba
A report by the Brazilian Forum for Public Security (FBSP) reveals low levels of female representation within the military police forces of Piauí and Paraíba, both of which rank among the lowest in Brazil.
In Piauí, women constitute only 9.4% of the military police force, significantly below the national average of 12.8%. The state's female participation is surpassed only by Ceará and Rio Grande do Norte. Within Piauí's civil police, women make up 21.2% of the staff, which is also below the national average of 27%.
In Paraíba, women represent 7.9% of the military police force, the second-lowest proportion in the country, trailing only Ceará. The report also notes that women make up 11.2% of the state's military fire brigade, which is below the national average of 15%. However, the Paraíba civil police shows higher representation, with women comprising 25.7% of its personnel.
