Low-pressure system in South China Sea may trigger weather warnings

A low-pressure system in the northern South China Sea is causing unstable weather conditions across the region. While the system has not yet developed into a tropical cyclone, its structure remains loose. The Central Meteorological Administration has upgraded the disturbance to a tropical low, with its center located approximately 270 kilometers east of Wenchang, Hainan.

The Hong Kong Observatory has issued a special weather tip, noting that a No. 1 Standby Signal may be necessary depending on the system's strength and movement. Although current projections suggest the system will stay at a distance from Hong Kong, its track after crossing Hainan remains uncertain. It may move north toward the Beibu Gulf and Leizhou Peninsula or turn east toward the Guangdong coast near the weekend.

Forecasts indicate that Thursday will bring east to south-easterly winds, with offshore winds and gusts on high ground potentially reaching gale conditions. Residents should expect cloudy skies, squally showers, and intense downpours. Conditions are expected to become more manageable by Friday and Saturday.
