Low temperatures prompt safety advisories in Argentina and Chile

Authorities and service providers are issuing safety recommendations in response to significant drops in temperature. In Necochea, Defensa Civil has advised residents to limit outdoor exposure during the coldest hours of the morning and night. Recommendations include wearing layered clothing, protecting extremities with gloves and hats, and maintaining hydration. Additionally, officials warned against overloading electrical outlets due to increased heating demands.

In Chile, the water utility Essbio has urged customers to protect water meters from freezing to prevent damage and supply disruptions. Regional manager Hernán Berríos suggested using insulating materials such as cardboard, plastic, or styrofoam to shield meters. Essbio noted that if a meter breaks due to the cold, the company will provide a provisional solution at no cost to the customer.
