Lower Austria launches active pension scheme with €15,000 tax‑free earnings for retirees

The Wirtschaftsbund Niederösterreich announced details of an "Aktivpension" that will allow people who continue working after reaching the statutory retirement age to earn up to €15,000 per year tax‑free starting in 2027. The scheme also eliminates the employee’s own pension‑insurance contribution for both salaried workers and the self‑employed, aiming to benefit around 150,000 individuals.

WBNÖ President Wolfgang Ecker said the measure makes voluntary continued employment financially attractive and helps retain experienced staff, while National Council member Harald Servus highlighted the incentive for older workers to pass on knowledge. The law is slated to take effect on 1 January 2027, with the association urging a swift parliamentary passage in the autumn to give employers certainty for payroll planning.
