Lower Austria secures funding for air rescue helicopter
The Lower Austrian government has approved an additional 500,000 euro funding contribution for the air rescue base in Vienna-Erdberg. This decision ensures the continued operation of the Christophorus 9 emergency doctor helicopter through 2027.
Evaluations indicate that approximately 80 percent of the helicopter's missions take place in northern and eastern Lower Austria. Starting in January 2028, a new financing model is planned between Vienna, Lower Austria, and Burgenland. Under this agreement, costs will no longer be charged as a flat fee but will instead be calculated based on actual flight minutes.
