Lower Back Pain Relief: Yoga Adjustments and Chair Exercises for Seniors

Yoga instructors are advised to modify poses for students with lower‑back, knee or shoulder issues. Emphasising spinal neutrality, teachers should avoid deep flexion in Downward Dog and Forward Fold, use props for the knees, and replace weight‑bearing arm positions such as Plank with gentler alternatives. Trauma‑sensitive classes should give participants constant choice and avoid hands‑on adjustments.

For people over 60, chair‑based exercises are promoted as a faster way to rebuild lower‑back strength than gym machines. Seated pelvic tilts, hip‑flexor stretches and other movements train the back to stabilize while the limbs move, addressing the weakness that develops from decades of sitting. These routines require no equipment, reduce fear of injury, and improve everyday functional tasks like lifting or standing.
