Lower Bavaria farmer faces fine for illegal biotope modification

A farmer in the Perlesreut municipality, located in the Freyung-Grafenau district of Lower Bavaria, faces significant legal and financial consequences following illegal interventions in a protected biotope. Authorities confirmed that the landowner modified a stream, cleared riparian vegetation, and deforested a wooded area near Hötzerreut.

Following reports from local residents, an official inspection revealed unauthorized land alterations, including the construction of embankments and the modification of stream loops. As a result, the farmer faces a potential fine of up to 50,000 euros. Additionally, the authorities have ordered mandatory restoration measures, which include returning the watercourse to its original state, planting new riparian vegetation, and reforesting the cleared areas in coordination with forestry administration.
