Lower Saxony Premier Olaf Lies prioritizes economic growth over new regulations

Olaf Lies, the Minister-President of Lower Saxony, has stated that the state will temporarily forgo certain regulatory requirements, such as the Supply Chain Due Diligence Act and the Packaging Act, to protect the economy. Speaking on the ‘Berlin Playbook’ podcast, Lies noted that while the objectives of these laws are correct, the current economic weakness makes additional requirements unsustainable.

Lies warned that further weakening economic strength could undermine the ability to implement positive global changes. He argued that any measures contributing to the current low growth must be set aside for the time being.

Additionally, Lies criticized the campaign strategy of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's Minister-President Manuela Schwesig, which targets the federal government. He cautioned that using state elections to challenge federal politics could destabilize the federal government and advised focusing more on state-level issues.
