Lower Silesian medical centers integrate lung cancer care

The Lower Silesian Oncology, Pulmonology and Hematology Center has implemented an integrated approach to lung cancer care following the 2021 merger of three specialized facilities: the Lower Silesian Oncology Center, the Lower Silesian Lung Disease Center, and the Lower Silesian Cell Transplantation Center.

This merger integrated various medical disciplines, including pulmonology, thoracic surgery, clinical oncology, radiotherapy, diagnostic imaging, pathomorphology, and molecular diagnostics, into a single coordinated diagnostic and therapeutic process. According to Director Prof. Adam Maciejczyk, the integration aimed to close gaps in patient care identified during the National Oncology Network pilot program by unifying and shortening the diagnostic pathway.

A key component of this model is the Rapid Oncology Diagnostic Center, which focuses on bronchoscopy. This procedure is essential for assessing airways and obtaining high-quality material for pathomorphological and molecular testing to ensure accurate and timely diagnoses.
