Lower Spreewald waterways reopen after moth infestation

Waterways in the Lower Spreewald have been reopened to boats following closures caused by the spread of the oak processionary moth. The State Office for Construction and Transport (LBV) announced on Friday that sections of the waterways, which had been restricted since mid-June, are once again navigable.

While some areas were cleared, certain sections remain closed due to ongoing construction work at locks and bank stabilization efforts. These include parts of the Dresslerstrom and the Spree near the Schlepziger Mühle lock. Additionally, the LBV warned of potential restrictions due to low water levels and requested that users avoid lock operations where possible.
