Lowe’s launches drone delivery pilot in North Carolina

Lowe’s has launched a drone delivery pilot program to provide rapid fulfillment for DIY and professional customers. The service is currently live at a store in Matthews, North Carolina, and aims to deliver select home improvement items in as little as 20 minutes.

The initiative is a collaboration with DoorDash and Alphabet’s Wing. Customers can access the service through a dedicated ‘Lowe’s by Drone’ storefront within the DoorDash app. Currently, Wing drones are capable of transporting orders weighing approximately 2.5 pounds per flight within a 5-mile radius of the participating store.

According to Seemantini Godbole, Lowe’s chief information and AI officer, the technology is intended to eliminate friction in the retail journey, allowing customers to quickly obtain necessary materials to complete their projects without interruption.
