Loznica water supply threatened by low Drina river levels
The water supply system in Loznica is facing significant challenges due to the low water level of the Drina river. JP 'Vodovod i kanalizacija' reported that the 15 wells in the system are currently extracting approximately 259 liters of water per second, which is notably below the average. The water level at the Radalj measuring station has remained at a biological minimum for nearly two weeks, directly impacting the efficiency of water intake facilities.
This reduction in supply, combined with increased consumption, has led to a drop in network pressure. Consumers in peripheral areas and higher elevation zones are particularly affected, experiencing occasional interruptions in service.
Following discussions with officials at the Zvornik Hydroelectric Power Plant (HE 'Zvornik'), more water has been released, and water levels began to rise earlier today. Marko Putrić, director of the Loznica water utility, stated that they expect water supply to normalize within the next day if the water level remains stable for several hours. In the meantime, authorities have appealed to citizens to use water rationally, specifically requesting that they limit garden and lawn watering to conserve resources.
