LPG markets face connection freezes and price hikes in India and Pakistan

Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) availability and pricing are facing challenges in India and Pakistan. In India, public-sector oil marketing companies (OMCs) are reportedly freezing new domestic LPG connections. Distributors have indicated that all new applications are currently on hold, leaving first-time consumers without access to standard connections.

To address the shortage, some distributors are promoting 10-kg composite LPG cylinders as an interim solution. However, these cylinders carry a significantly higher upfront cost, ranging from Rs 9,100 to Rs 9,250, compared to the approximately Rs 936 cost of a conventional 14.6-kg domestic cylinder.

In Pakistan, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has announced a price increase for LPG. For October 2026, the price has risen by Rs 20.68 per kilogram. This adjustment brings the cost of an 11.8kg domestic cylinder to Rs 3,296.23, representing an increase of Rs 244.14.
