LPG tanker fire on Ionia Odos near Arta
A fire broke out on a tanker carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) on the Ionia Odos highway near Arta on Thursday night. The incident occurred at approximately the 140th to 142nd kilometer on the lane heading towards Patra.
The driver managed to stop the vehicle and was evacuated safely without injury. Reports suggest the fire may have started from a vehicle tire before spreading. Due to the hazardous nature of the cargo, a significant firefighting response was deployed, involving approximately 18 to 20 firefighters and up to 10 vehicles from Arta and Filippiada.
Traffic in the direction of Patra was temporarily closed to allow for the emergency operation, with vehicles being diverted to ensure public safety. Authorities and Ionia Odos management remained on-site to manage the situation.
