LPG vehicle market grows in Spain amid fuel savings demand

The market for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) vehicles is seeing significant growth in Spain, driven by consumer demand for fuel savings and the ability to obtain the ECO label for driving in Low Emission Zones (ZBE).

In Spain, the number of LPG vehicles has risen to approximately 250,000, a substantial increase from roughly 35,000 to 40,000 a decade ago. This trend is supported by manufacturers like Dacia, which has seen sales increases in the region. The Spanish Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT) has even recommended converting existing gasoline vehicles to LPG as a mobility solution.

Converting a gasoline vehicle to LPG typically costs between 1,500 and 3,000 euros. The process is most suitable for gasoline engines with indirect injection, Euro 3 certification or higher, registered after 2001, and with power under 460 CV. While the conversion offers fuel savings of 30% to 40%, the investment is most profitable for drivers traveling between 15,000 and 20,000 kilometers annually. Diesel engines are generally not recommended for such conversions.
