LPL sets record for worst opening day in League of Legends Worlds history

The LPL region experienced a historic setback during the opening day of the Swiss Stage at the 2026 League of Legends World Championship. All four Chinese representatives suffered defeats, marking the worst opening day for any region since the implementation of the Swiss format.

Despite expectations that at least one team would secure a victory against opponents like MKOI or KC, the LPL failed to win a single match. While losses for TES and IG were attributed to weaker rosters, the defeat of top-tier teams like BLG—the First Stand champion and MSI 2026 runner-up—was noted as particularly unexpected due to their lack of cohesion during the match.

The current 0-1 standings set the stage for internal LPL matchups, increasing the risk that multiple teams could fall to a 0-2 record and face early elimination from the tournament.
