Luiza Brunet challenges R$ 150,000 indemnity for 2016 assault

The São Paulo Court has ordered businessman Lírio Parisotto to pay R$ 150,000 in moral damages to model and activist Luiza Brunet following a domestic violence incident that occurred in New York in 2016. The assault reportedly resulted in Brunet suffering four broken ribs and facial bruising.

Brunet has publicly questioned the adequacy of the compensation, stating that while the court recognized the violence, the amount does not represent a fair reparation given Parisotto’s significant wealth. She noted that while the sum is substantial for most Brazilians, it is negligible compared to Parisotto’s estimated net worth of US$ 2.7 billion, as reported by Forbes.

Brunet emphasized that financial compensation cannot erase physical or emotional scars, but argued that for a sentence to be an effective instrument of accountability and prevention, it must have a meaningful impact on the perpetrator’s assets.
