László Krasznahorkai awarded honorary doctorate by ELTE
László Krasznahorkai, the world-renowned Hungarian author and 2025 Nobel Prize in Literature laureate, has been awarded an honorary doctorate by Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE). The Doctor Honoris Causa title was proposed by the university’s Faculty of Humanities and unanimously approved by the senate.
During the ceremony, Rector Lénárd Darázs praised Krasznahorkai for enriching universal culture with enduring values. Dávid Bartus, dean of the Faculty of Humanities, highlighted the author’s ability to merge ethics and aesthetics, noting that his works provide a profound philosophical interpretation of human existence and a critique of modern spiritual indifference. Krasznahorkai’s literary works have been translated into more than 40 languages.
