László Krasznahorkai discusses past state security interrogation

Nobel Prize-winning author László Krasznahorkai shared details of his past in a recent interview with Partizán. During the discussion, he recounted a police interrogation from his younger years, which revealed that an acquaintance had reported him to the state security services.

Krasznahorkai explained that the interrogation stemmed from a comment he allegedly made regarding events at the University, a sensitive topic given the history of the 1956 revolution. During the questioning, authorities attempted to pressure him into admitting he was part of an anti-systemic political movement. The author noted that through this process, he discovered a close friend from Gyula was the informant. Although he maintained a friendship with the individual after learning the truth, he never confronted him about the betrayal.

The interview also touched upon his literary career, his views on post-capitalism, and his reflections on the passing of writer Péter Nádas, which he views as the end of a specific era in Hungarian literature.
