László Krasznahorkai's novel Herscht 07769 released in Spanish
The novel Herscht 07769 by Hungarian Nobel Laureate László Krasznahorkai has been published in Spanish by Acantilado and is now available in Mexican bookstores. Translated by Adan Kovacsics, the work explores themes of quantum cataclysm, political anxiety, and the rise of the far-right in contemporary Europe.
Set in a small town in Thuringia, Germany, the narrative follows Florian Herscht, a man who fears a cosmic collapse and attempts to warn former German Chancellor Angela Merkel. The plot also involves the pursuit of a graffiti artist who paints wolf heads on monuments dedicated to Johann Sebastian Bach, an act that incites a local neo-Nazi leader obsessed with the concept of a Fourth Reich.
Krasznahorkai employs a unique stylistic approach, constructing the entire narrative as a single, continuous sentence without periods until the final page. The novel, which received the 2024 Formentor Prize, was a significant work contributing to the author's 2025 Nobel Prize in Literature.
