László Kövér criticizes Fidesz following unexpected election defeat

Former Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament László Kövér has expressed surprise at the scale of Fidesz's recent electoral defeat, noting that while a loss was anticipated, the magnitude was unexpected. Kövér admitted that the party made mistakes in several areas, specifically highlighting a failure to improve dialogue with younger generations and criticizing the current state of the education system, which he claims is in worse condition than it was 16 years ago.

Regarding the political future of Viktor Orbán, Kövér suggested that while Orbán will continue to play a decisive role in shaping the Hungarian right wing, it is too early to determine if he will run for Prime Minister again in 2030.

Political analysts further discuss the structural challenges facing the country following the transition. Discussions highlight that the influence of the previous administration, often referred to as ‘Orbánism,’ persists through deep-seated dependency networks involving public employees, state enterprises, and local governments. While economic growth and increased employment previously masked structural issues and a reliance on assembly-line industries, the political shift necessitates addressing these long-standing social and economic dependencies.
