László Nemes to direct Jack the Ripper thriller series ‘Sickert’

Oscar-winning filmmaker László Nemes is set to direct and co-write ‘Sickert’, a historical thriller limited series centered on the mystery of Jack the Ripper. Set in London in 1888, the series explores a theory involving German-British painter Walter Sickert as a person of interest in the Scotland Yard investigation.

The narrative follows Sickert as he navigates both high society and the marginalized underclass of Whitechapel, the latter of which served as the setting for the Ripper murders. As the investigation intensifies, the character begins to doubt his own identity and sanity.

Produced by Oscar-nominated Alexander Rodnyansky, the project includes co-writer Adam Baroukh. Nemes expressed a lifelong fascination with the gothic mystery of Victorian London and aims to create a story that is both epic and personal.
