Lt Gen Girish Kalia visits Assam Rifles in Manipur

Lt Gen Girish Kalia, General Officer Commanding of the Indian Army’s Spear Corps, visited an Assam Rifles forward post in Manipur to review operational preparedness and the regional security situation. During the visit, Kalia was briefed on the readiness of troops stationed along the India-Myanmar border.

The visit occurs amid ongoing efforts to fence the 1,643 km India-Myanmar border, of which 398 km lies within Manipur. While fencing has commenced, with approximately 55 km completed in Manipur, the project faces challenges including difficult hilly and forested terrain, as well as resistance from militant groups.

The security environment remains complex, marked by recent attacks on security forces and local political tensions. Various community groups in Manipur have expressed grievances regarding the Assam Rifles' role in managing ethnic conflicts and their presence in the state.
