Lt. Gen. K.V.N.P. Premaratne appointed 26th Commander of Sri Lanka Army

Lieutenant General K. V. N. P. Premaratne received his letter of appointment as the 26th Commander of the Sri Lanka Army from Presidential Secretary Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake at the Presidential Secretariat on 31 July. The appointment, made on the instructions of Commander‑in‑Chief President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, takes effect on 1 August following the retirement of General Lasantha Rodrigo.

Premaratne, previously Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army, was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General. He joined the army in 1990, holds master’s degrees in defence studies from the Naval Postgraduate School in California and the University of Kelaniya, and has been awarded the Rana Sura Padakkama twice and the Uttama Seva Padakkama for distinguished service.
