LTFRB orders nationwide crackdown on illegal truck-for-hire operations
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has directed its Law Enforcement Unit to intensify nationwide operations against ‘colorum’ trucks and vans. These unauthorized vehicles are reportedly providing illegal transport services to online marketplaces and shopping platforms.
Acting LTFRB chairperson Greg Pua Jr. stated that the crackdown follows complaints from legitimate operators. Violations of Joint Administrative Order 2014-01 can result in the impounding of vehicles and fines of up to P200,000 per unit. Pua emphasized that securing a Certificate of Public Convenience (CPC) is essential for road safety and roadworthiness inspections.
Furthermore, under the amended Public Service Act, these operations must adhere to constitutional requirements regarding Filipino ownership and control. Violations of these ownership limits carry penalties including imprisonment of six to 12 years, fines up to P2 million, or both.
